Sweets

These are some of the best spots in Toronto to find delicious sweet treats.

Emmer

  • We’re not really regulars anywhere except this bakery, where we try to have breakfast together every Sunday. It can be a little pricey, but it’ll make sense once you taste the pastries. Best pastries in Toronto. The staff are super sweet (and paid a living wage) and our dear friends, the patio feels like an European terrace where you can sip coffee and talk for hours. It makes us super happy and proud to be residents of Harbord Village.

Kwento

  • This is where our wedding cake will be from! Funky, fun cakes and other sweet treats that often have a Filipino influence.

Harbord Bakery

  • This bakery across the street from us has been operating since 1945. It’s a Jewish business that’s truly a community hub and people come from far for their specialties like rugelach, hamantaschens, or brisket that they cook on holidays. We love the glimpses of family history featured on their walls.
  • They also make the best donut either of us has ever had. However. The timing of said donut is elusive. If you happen to be around on Thursday or Friday morning, give it a go, and you might just be rewarded with a soft but crunchy, sweet but not-too-sweet, buttery but not too rich masterpiece.

Almond Butterfly

  • With two locations, the Almond Butterfly is a haven for people who are gluten-free. They make awesome cupcakes.

Craig’s Cookies

  • Best cookies in the world, in Judy’s opinion.

Uncle Tetsu’s

  • Affordable, fluffy, tender Japanese cheesecakes.

Dessert Kitchen

  • Various Asian-inspired sweet entrĂ©es make dessert feel like an event instead of an afterthought! A great place for East Asian shaved ice that can be hard to find.

Good Behaviour Ice Cream

  • Very cleverly named, because whenever I’m working hard, this is where I want to come for a treat. The flavours are very creative and diverse, and inspired by flavours from all over the world. Noah’s favourite is S’mores and Judy’s fave is Strawberry Cheesecake.

Bunner’s

  • Bunner’s is proof that vegan baking can be just as good, if not even more delicious than regular baking. Their donuts, savoury hand pies, cakes are all incredible.

Forno Cultura

  • If you’ve got a soft spot for fine Italian pastries, you gotta go here. If you get there early enough, you can get a cornetto with lemon cream as big as your head.
